Camp Falcon gets a new recruit

December 15th, 2009

Bad Monkey sent us a few snaps of himself from Iraq. He misses his people but keeps his spirits up by staying in shape and working on his Arabic poetry.

We like his collection of bullets (not sure what orange tipped bullets are made from?) and hope he stays safe.

Jamaica James on the run

October 26th, 2009

With recent reports of financial mis-dealings we wanted to check in with our friend, Jamacia James. He was accused of some tricky bookwork and felt that he would not receive a fair shake. Needless to say, he legged it. We can’t disclose where in the world he is but his home was in Montana.

In his phone call with us, he expressed his enjoyment of the sun and warmth of….where ever he is and I think I heard some steel drums but cant be sure.

Quick trip to Machu

September 4th, 2009

I tell ya, being in Argentina and Uruaguay really makes you forget that you are in South America. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy this area of the world…but I am made from a bit tougher cotton. I love third world travel!

Peru is one of the best places on earth, in my opionion and so when I heard that a bus ran from Buenos Aires to Cusco Peru (only 68 hours), I got me a ticket!

Machu Pichu is a wonderful place that still rings with mystery. Yes, it is starting to become touristy….but that is the price we pay for sharing the planet. I am still working on my Spanish and need to head off for a lunch date.

Uruguay Dreams

August 29th, 2009

From Buenos Aires it is a easy 3 hour boat ride to get to Montevideo, a city that I never thought of visiting. But now that I am here I find it a wonderful place.

There are many cars driving around that are over fifty years old and while I have yet to see a Sock Monkey….the people seem to accept me and my weak Spanish. The city is very old and has a look of tarnished silver, as in great things happened here…but not for 70 years or so.

The people here are very nice and seem to have retained a kind culture that is missing in some South American areas.

Ok, I need to find me a steak!

Ceru visits Buenos Aires

August 26th, 2009

Howdy,

Ceru here.

I recently returned from Argentina and wanted to share some of my adventures. Buenos Aires is a wonderful city with many things to do. We were invited to speak for the South American Sock Monkey Club and so I brought my two assistants to help. They seemed to have fun and you can read about their fun at www.WeGoWest.com .

I spent most of my time eating pizza, walking the parks and learning to Tango. The female Stockings there are amazing and sure do know how to move their heels.

We are headed to Uruguay soon and so must round up my humans.

Ceru’s Grand Day Out (on the road 4)

September 4th, 2008

On the road can be a lonely place. Strange thoughts go through your mind, strange feelings find lodging in your fluff.

From all I have heard (mostly from Humans) the GRAND CANYON is supposed to be the mostest bestest place on earth (say it aent so, Walt!) and I have to admit that it was neat. Maybe I had just been over National parked by this time in my walk about, but it looked like a large hole in the ground.

It was late one night, not long after finding a nice couple that let me sleep in their car ( a whole nother story ) that I came to the realization that  I like to look up at impressive nature and not up. I am not sure what this says about me or how I was stuffed but at least it is known and documented now.

I can’t … er won’t go into the couple that I stayed with while driving around the Grand Canyon area, ( I think one of them was a “Plushy”) but they had a nice setup. All the hot chocolate I could drink and real MRE’s , they even had a chair for me to chill in.

Well, I don’t have more than a few weeks before I should start thinking of heading back to my people. You never know what they can get themselves into if left alone for too long. I really should think about getting them out of the house more, maybe South America again….hmmmm

On the Road (part 2)

June 4th, 2008

Hey,

My last update, I was in Oregon making my way east, having hitched a ride on the back of a biker couples Harley. They were great but eventually they needed to take a a turn north and I neeeded to go south.

We said our goodbyes and I ended up hoofin’ it for a while. Slowly I made my way into Idaho. The roads were horrible but overall Idaho was a great place. The fellow travelers I met were nice and even I received a bit of assistance from one or two.

Below is a snap from the Snake River.

I would have loved to spend more time in Idaho but the snow was calling my name. Travel without a motor vehicle can be a real challenge but one I am upto. It is funny that travel in a third world can be so much easier than travel in the US, but at least you can get a real burger here!

My money ran out about Park City, Utah and I had to be creative about acquiring some loot. The idea of calling home and asking for an advance on my book deal bounced around my fluff but …. I found other options.

It ended up that the warmer weather had killed my dreams of skiing but it was nice to visit Park City. I did have to wash dishes in a few of the cafes and even a bit of bouncin’ at a night club for a few nights. I know, I know, your thinking that I look to thin to do much intimidating. If you treat people right and look them in the eye, I find most humans, even the drunk ones, respectful of Monkeys. Also, a bit of Judo helps.

Having refilled my coffers with some easy and hard earned cash, it was time to head south to the bad lands. I was able to hitch a ride with a trucker most of the way but he would not shut up about how cute I was. ( I don’t find humans attactive, just to be clear.)

Eventually, I had to get off the road and make my way in the SW desert. Southern Utah is so pretty and the weather was perfect.

I was able to rest and decompress from my experiences for the past few years. Even did some gold panning and even got some sun. I might regret it later when I start to fade but you got to get the fez off sometimes.

More later…..

Ceru takes on the SW USA

May 26th, 2008

Howdy Monkeys!

The trip around the USA was great. We had some close calls and did endup spending some time incarcerated but we can chat about that later.

I wanted to share the trip with you starting with this post;

While I am a mild monkey the pull of the road can be overwhelming at times. Having recently read some Kerouak I decided to enjoy the road and not just use it as transportation. To me this meant finding a hitchhiking till a nice couple from Washington picked me up on their Harley.

dsc00067-640x480.JPG
It was a smooth ride and we stopped often to visit WaterFalls and other treats.

dsc00066-640x480.JPG

Our first stop was Multnomah falls in Oregon. I wanted to hike to the top but when your hitch’n man….you go with the bike!

dsc00070-640x480.JPG

I was not ready for the … pain that was involved in riding the road on the bike. After a day or two, I found that my fluff was not made for a life of bug covered hat and a flattened Red Heel.

Next update soon!

About had it…

March 25th, 2008

I need to be straight with you. There is only one of me that does this blog and while I have tried to keep up a entertaining and cheery face….I have about had it.

My name is Ceru, yes “that”Ceru. I manage SockMonkey.net and while I enjoy being the #1 Sock Monkey supplies provider, I need to get away. The last few posts have encouraged me to get off my fluff and travel a bit. Where I will end up…I can’t tell you but this I can tell you;

I have about had it, it is time for my epic walk-about.

I hope to post my experiences while I am on the rails/plane or road. I need a week or two for training a newly made Monkey to take over my shop, but after that……..im’a gone!

The Human’s that I keep, err live with, will not be going with me but they have been kind enough to help me pack and take a few shots of me for the blog. (I won’t take everything….probably.)

packing for my walk about

I would love to hear from you about where I could go and what I could do. My funds are almost unlimited and my time-frame is open.
